Grand Egyptian Museum Tickets: The Price and What a Tour Adds

Grand Egyptian Museum tickets: EGP 1,830 for a foreign adult, read on the museum's ticketing site in November 2026, booked online for an entry time. Child and student prices, the rules, and what a tour adds.

Updated November 2026

A foreign adult pays EGP 1,830 for the Grand Egyptian Museum, booked on the museum’s own ticketing site, tickets.gem.eg, for a date and an entry time (read for 11 November 2026, checked November 2026). You can buy there yourself. The ticket in the calendar below is the same visit bought on GetYourGuide in US dollars, from $35 (checked November 2026): the main galleries, the Tutankhamun galleries and the solar boat museum at your own pace. Neither comes with a guide or transport; that is what a tour adds.

Powerd by GetYourGuide

The calendar is the Cairo: Entry Ticket to Grand Egyptian Museum, sold by GetYourGuide Tours & Tickets GmbH, with 3,763 reviews (checked November 2026). It is valid on the date you pick, cannot be refunded, and does not suit children under six. Backpacks, large bags, food and drinks are not allowed in.

Grand Egyptian Museum ticketing site, read for a visit on 11 November 2026 (checked November 2026). The site sells in Egyptian pounds; students show a valid student ID at the museum.

Children under six go free, and so do visitors with disabilities; both need identification at the museum. The Guided Tour Ticket is admission plus a group tour with other visitors, not a private one: about two hours over the Tutankhamun Galleries, the Grand Hall, the Grand Stairs and the Main Galleries, in English or Arabic, with an audio device you collect against an ID deposit. The museum also offers an audio guide in Arabic, English and Japanese, with more than 100 stops.

Entry times and the ticket rules

Every ticket is booked online in advance for a date and an entry window, the period in which you go in; it does not limit how long you stay. For Wednesday 11 November 2026 the windows were 8:30 to 11:00, 11:00 to 13:00, 13:00 to 15:00, 15:00 to 17:00 and 17:00 to 20:00, the last one there because the galleries stay open until 21:00 on Wednesdays and Saturdays (Grand Egyptian Museum, checked November 2026).

The ticket terms are strict. A ticket carries the name of its holder and cannot be passed on, it allows one entry and no re-entry once you leave, and it is valid only for its date and time. It cannot be refunded after purchase, whatever channel it was bought through, except for force majeure as the museum decides it. Ticket sales can stop up to an hour before closing, or earlier when the museum is full.

Can you buy at the door? The museum’s FAQ says all tickets must be booked online in advance, with an entry time, so book before you go. Its ticketing site also says it is the only official place to buy museum tickets, and that the museum is not responsible for tickets bought elsewhere; a GetYourGuide ticket is bought from GetYourGuide, under GetYourGuide’s terms.

What a tour adds

The ticket gets you in; it does not get you there, and it does not explain what you are looking at. A tour adds three things.

  1. A guide. The museum is very large; a guide chooses the route through it and tells the story of what you see. The museum’s own Guided Tour Ticket does this in a group, in English or Arabic, for EGP 500 more than admission.
  2. Transport. The museum is on the Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road, 16.6 km by road from Tahrir Square and 37.6 km from Cairo International Airport. The tours below collect you from your hotel.
  3. The plateau. A day with the pyramids adds the area ticket for the plateau and the Sphinx, EGP 700 for a foreign adult at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities (checked November 2026), and covers both in one trip: the OceanAir Travel day is one of them.

Prices, ratings and review counts from the listings (GetYourGuide checked November 2026). Operators price by date and season, so treat the figures as the shape of the market, not a quote.

The ticket on its own suits someone staying near Giza, happy to take a taxi and to read the labels, with a free morning or afternoon; with the late opening on Wednesdays and Saturdays, you can also go after a day on the plateau. Anyone seeing the pyramids for the first time on the same trip does better with the full day: the museum and Pyramids tour, or the museum alone? sets the options side by side.

On the day

Map of the Grand Egyptian Museum and the Giza pyramids: the Grand Egyptian Museum on the desert road, the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Pyramid of Khafre, the Pyramid of Menkaure, the Great Sphinx, and the drive of 5.5 km by road from the museum to the plateau visitor centre
The Grand Egyptian Museum, El Remayah Square, Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road, Giza: the ticket takes you in here; the pyramids are a separate ticket and a 5.5 km drive to the plateau visitor centre.

The museum’s own site sends the tickets to the email address and phone number you give when booking; a GetYourGuide ticket is valid for the date you select. Visitors and bags are checked before entry, and staff may ask to see your ticket at any time inside. The museum is at El Remayah Square on the Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road, with paid parking for cars. Bags larger than 40 x 40 cm go into the free lockers before you enter. Hours, entry times and rules has the rest.
