Grand Egyptian Museum FAQ and ticketing site, read November 2026. The museum prints no weekly closing day.
Ticket sales can stop up to an hour before closing, or earlier when the museum reaches capacity. When checked in November 2026 the museum’s pages listed no closure for the winter season, and no special hours for Ramadan 2027; check its site before a visit in Ramadan. The museum keeps the right to cancel or reschedule events and tours without notice, and offers a voucher for a future visit when it does.
The entry time on your ticket
Every ticket is booked online in advance for a date and an entry window, the period in which you go in. It does not limit how long you stay. For Wednesday 11 November 2026 the windows were 8:30 to 11:00, 11:00 to 13:00, 13:00 to 15:00, 15:00 to 17:00 and 17:00 to 20:00 (Grand Egyptian Museum ticketing site). The ticket is valid only for that date and time, carries your name, allows one entry and cannot be refunded; Grand Egyptian Museum tickets has the prices.
On your own, the late days are the gift of the timetable: a morning on the Giza plateau, then the museum in the evening until 21:00.
What to bring, and what to leave
- Bags. Small bags are fine. Bags, backpacks or luggage larger than 40 x 40 cm go into the lockers, which are free, and must be collected the same day before closing. Umbrellas are left in the designated areas too.
- Food and drink. Only small bottles of water. Outside food and other drinks are not allowed; the museum has its own food and drink outlets.
- Photography. Personal photos and video are allowed. Flash, tripods, monopods, selfie sticks, drones, external lighting and live streaming are not. The Tutankhamun Galleries carry restrictions of their own, so follow the signs and the staff there, and do not photograph other visitors or staff without their consent.
- Dress and conduct. The museum asks for appropriate attire, without saying more. Smoking is allowed only in designated outdoor areas, and children must stay with an adult.
- Access. The museum is designed to be wheelchair accessible, with ramps, lifts and wide paths, and the information desk helps visitors who need it. Visitors with disabilities enter free, with identification.

Visitors and their bags are checked before entry, and staff may ask to see your ticket at any time inside. Parking is on site, for a fee.
When a tour is the easier answer

The rules are simple for a visitor with a ticket and a taxi. A tour takes the timing off your hands: the entry ticket, the slot, the drive along the desert road and the guide come together, and on the full Giza day the pyramids come first. The tour in the calendar below is OceanAir Travel’s Cairo: Grand Egyptian Museum, Pyramids, Sphinx Tour & Lunch, from $97 on promotion, usually $126 (checked November 2026), which is each for two adults on the shared tour; one adult pays US$120 (12 November, checked November 2026).
In November 2026 the shared tour starts at 7:00 or 7:30 AM, with pickup within the hour before, and leaves large bags and luggage out, like the museum. How long to allow has the times inside.
