The first choice
The Museum with the Pyramids, or on Its Own?
Most Grand Egyptian Museum tours pair the museum with the pyramids, a short drive away, and so does the tour in the calendar below: OceanAir Travel’s Cairo: Grand Egyptian Museum, Pyramids, Sphinx Tour & Lunch, a 7 to 8 hour day from your Cairo or Giza hotel with an Egyptologist, the Pyramids, the Sphinx, two hours inside the museum, lunch, and both entry tickets in the price. It shows from $97 on promotion, usually $126 (checked November 2026), which is the price each for two adults booking the shared tour together; one adult pays US$120 for the shared tour, and US$236 for the private one (12 November, checked November 2026).
Cairo: Grand Egyptian Museum, Pyramids, Sphinx Tour & Lunch
The Pyramids, the Sphinx and the Valley Temple of Khafre, then two hours in the museum, with hotel pickup, lunch and both entry tickets. The from-price is each for two adults; one adult pays US$120 for the shared tour (12 November, checked November 2026).

Sun Pyramids Tours drives you from your Cairo hotel for a two-hour private guided visit of the museum, entrance fees included, about four hours in all. No pyramids.

Or no tour at all. The museum sells its own timed tickets online, EGP 1,830 for a foreign adult (tickets.gem.eg, checked November 2026), and you can take a taxi to the door. Grand Egyptian Museum tickets sets out what the ticket covers and what a tour adds.

How a Grand Egyptian Museum Tour Works
What the OceanAir Travel day buys, what you see inside the museum, the museum's own ticket and hours, and where everything is.
What the OceanAir Travel day buys
| Option | One adult, 12 November | Two adults together, 12 November | Start times |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shared tour with lunch and entrance tickets, 8 hours | US$120 | US$97 each for two adults | 7:00 or 7:30 AM |
| Private guided tour with lunch and entry ticket, 7 hours | US$236 | US$191 each for two adults | 7:00, 8:00 or 9:00 AM |
Prices for an English-language tour, read in November 2026; the shared tour was also US$120 for one adult on 24 November. The from-price on the card is the lowest per-person figure across party sizes, so it is the shared tour for two. Both options include hotel pickup and drop-off in Cairo or Giza, an Egyptologist guide, bottled water, lunch at an Egyptian restaurant, and entry to the Pyramids-Sphinx area and the Grand Egyptian Museum. Not included: going inside the Great Pyramid, drinks at lunch, tips, and the optional camel ride, which costs extra. The guide speaks French, English, Italian, German or Spanish.
The order is fixed: the Pyramids of Giza for about an hour, the Sphinx for 30 minutes, the Valley Temple of Khafre for 15, then the museum for two hours and lunch in Giza. Bring a passport or ID card; a copy is accepted. Large bags and luggage are not allowed, and the tour does not suit wheelchair users. For a first visit to Giza, with the plateau and the museum in one guided day and no tickets to buy, this is the tour to book.
Check dates for the shared tour
The Grand Egyptian Museum and Pyramids tour, or the museum alone? sets this day against the museum-only tours and the trips from the Red Sea resorts.
What you see inside the museum
An admission ticket covers the Tutankhamun Galleries, the Main Galleries, the Grand Hall, the Grand Stairs, Khufu’s Boats Museum, the shops and the gardens outside (Grand Egyptian Museum, checked November 2026). The museum’s own guided tour takes about two hours over the Tutankhamun Galleries, the Grand Hall, the Grand Stairs and the Main Galleries, which is a fair measure of the minimum. Two hours with a guide is what the OceanAir Travel day gives the museum; Saladino Tours - Egypt gives it two and a half on a day with the same name.
If Tutankhamun is the reason you are going, know that the museum lists his golden burial mask, his golden throne and his outer coffin in the Tutankhamun Galleries (Is Tutankhamun in the Grand Egyptian Museum?). On a guided day the guide picks the route through the museum; how long to allow has the times.
The museum’s own ticket, hours and rules
Every ticket is booked online for a date and an entry time, and the entry time only says when you arrive, not when you must leave. A foreign adult pays EGP 1,830, a child aged 6 to 12 or a student aged 13 to 24 EGP 920, and children under six go free; the museum’s Guided Tour Ticket, admission with a group tour among other visitors, is EGP 2,330 (tickets.gem.eg, read for 11 November 2026). Tickets carry your name, allow a single entry and cannot be refunded.
The galleries open from 9:00 to 18:00 on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and until 21:00 on Wednesday and Saturday, with the last entry an hour before they close (Grand Egyptian Museum, checked November 2026). Flash, tripods, selfie sticks and drones are not allowed; bags larger than 40 x 40 cm go to the free lockers. Hours, entry times and rules has the full list.
Where it is

The museum stands at El Remayah Square on the Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road, at the northern edge of the Giza plateau. The Great Pyramid is about 1.9 km away in a straight line, and the drive from the museum to the plateau visitor centre is 5.5 km by road. Central Cairo is further: 16.6 km by road to Tahrir Square, and 37.6 km to Cairo International Airport. The museum’s own pages give directions by car and say public transport details are to follow; from the Giza pyramids to the museum covers the ways between them.
Coming from Hurghada or Sharm El Sheikh, the day trips by bus or plane sell the museum as an option rather than as the tour itself; the museum and Pyramids tour page explains how to tell.
The Pyramids, the Sphinx and the Museum in One Day
OceanAir Travel, with hotel pickup in Cairo or Giza, an Egyptologist, lunch and both entry tickets. Starting from $97 per person (each, for two adults booking the shared tour together on 12 November; one adult pays US$120, checked November 2026) on promotion, usually $126, checked November 2026.

Grand Egyptian Museum: Questions
The ticket price, booking ahead, how long to allow, Tutankhamun, the hours, photography, and the way between the museum and the pyramids.
EGP 1,830 for a foreign adult, on the museum's official ticketing site for a visit on 11 November 2026 (checked November 2026). A child aged 6 to 12 or a student aged 13 to 24 with a student ID pays EGP 920, and children under six go free. The museum's Guided Tour Ticket, admission plus a group tour of about 2 hours with other visitors, is EGP 2,330. See Grand Egyptian Museum tickets.
Yes. The museum says all tickets must be booked online in advance, for a date and an entry time. The entry time is the window in which you arrive; it does not limit how long you stay. Tickets carry your name, allow one entry and are not refundable. A tour that includes the museum, such as OceanAir Travel's Grand Egyptian Museum, Pyramids, Sphinx Tour & Lunch, arranges the ticket for you.
Allow at least two hours: the museum's own guided tour takes about 2 hours over the Tutankhamun Galleries, the Grand Hall, the Grand Stairs and the Main Galleries. The OceanAir Travel day spends two hours inside, and the Saladino Tours - Egypt day two and a half. On your own you can stay until the galleries close at 18:00, or 21:00 on Wednesdays and Saturdays. See how long to allow.
Yes. Every admission ticket includes the Tutankhamun Galleries (Grand Egyptian Museum, checked November 2026). The museum lists the golden burial mask, the golden throne, the royal diadem and the outer coffin among the objects of that collection. See Tutankhamun at the Grand Egyptian Museum.
On Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday the galleries open 9:00 to 18:00; on Wednesday and Saturday 9:00 to 21:00 (Grand Egyptian Museum, checked November 2026). The museum complex opens at 8:30 and closes at 19:00, or 22:00 on the two late days. The last entry is an hour before the galleries close: 17:00, or 20:00. See hours and rules.
The two are close, about 1.9 km in a straight line from the museum to the Great Pyramid, but the museum prints no walking route and the tours drive. By road it is 2.8 km from the museum to the Mena House side of the plateau and 5.5 km to the plateau visitor centre. See from the Giza pyramids to the museum.
Personal photos and video are allowed, but no flash, tripods, monopods, selfie sticks, drones, external lighting or live streaming (Grand Egyptian Museum, checked November 2026). The Tutankhamun Galleries carry restrictions of their own, so follow the signs and the staff there. Bags larger than 40 x 40 cm go to the free lockers, and only small bottles of water may come in.
Yes: entry to the Pyramids-Sphinx area and to the Grand Egyptian Museum is in both options. Going inside the Great Pyramid is not; the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities charges a foreign adult EGP 1,000 for it on top of the area ticket (checked November 2026). The camel ride is optional and costs extra, and drinks at lunch and tips are not included.
At your hotel in Cairo or Giza, within 60 minutes before the booked start. Pickup from Nasr City, Cairo Airport, Heliopolis, Mirage City, Rehab City, Madinaty, New Cairo, the New Capital or 6th of October City is an add-on at checkout. In November 2026 the shared tour starts at 7:00 or 7:30 AM, the private tour at 7:00, 8:00 or 9:00 AM.
